The biggest expenditure for our current operations are the costs associated with our online services; the website and the online support groups.  To date, the set-up, funding, operation and maintenance of these services have been funded through The Michael W. Connett Living Trust.  The pertinent accounts payable of the Trust that support this venture are: Cincinnati Bell for our Broadband connection-Zoomtown and our Internet Service Provider-FUSE, DukeEnergy for Gas & Electric Service and AllWebNow for web hosting services.  We are now in need of outside financial assistance to maintain our online presence and continue providing online support and social services assistance.

Somedays, Life in The HIVe's a Bitch!!!

I'm doing the best I can, but it's not easy.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.  I recently sent a note to Oprah suggesting that she do a story on: "Life, and Living, with HIV/AIDS in America" as a result of this article.  As a witness from the beginning and a survivor for the last eleven years now 19, I expressed my deep concern that the current medical advancements and increased longevity had only served to sugar-coat the reality doing a disservice to the public and actually impeding prevention efforts.  This was brought home to me in the headlines, stories and events that are part of my experience.

I am very well aware that mine is a rather dark story that people do not want to hear, but I tell it to counter the sugar coating for the sake of prevention.  I'm hoping that a heaping dose of my honest reality about  "Life, and Living, with HIV/AIDS in America" - "that most of the time, it sucks... Big Time!"  might succeed where the other side of the story hasn't.

Thanks for allowing me to share my Journey with y'all.

Best Regards,

The Queen Bee – SoBank HIVe

The Things we need....

Class is an aura of confidence that is being sure without being cocky. Class has nothing to do with money. Class never runs scared. It is self-discipline and self-knowledge. It's the sure footedness that comes with having proved you can meet life.

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

2004 South Bank Steel Magnolia Recipients

The South Bank, Cvg, Ky, July 8…  This Monday Evening, July 12th, 2004, “SoBank CARES!” will present their  “South Bank Steel Magnolia” Award in a ceremony that will precede the movie itself during their Monday Movie Night @ Bar HumBug in downtown Covington.

According to “SoBank CARES!” founder and creator of the award,  Michael W. Connett, “My goal was to use the bright flame of Fairness & Diversity that was burning upon the unanimous passage of Covington's new & improved Human Rights Ordinance  and  at that time, in honor of the occasion, the "South Bank Steel Magnolia" Award was created. It was inspired by both the Movie and the tree that still grows in the front yard of my boyhood home in Dayton and is tended by my sister and her family. It's also pictured on the award!

It is my Honor to recognize the following for their contributions and commitment to  bettering the “Quality of Life” for our South Bank CommUNITY:

·        Ms. Pamela Mullins, Former City Commissioner & one of the architects of the Ordinance. Also a Governing Council member of AVNK

·        Emad & Tonya Ajwa of T & M Deli and T & M II for the advancement of Fairness…

·        Bar HumBug – Bart & Staff, for understanding and caring that “We’re all in this together…” and welcoming us with arms wide open…

·        Matthew Ashcraft  - As someone who has "Been there, Done that - Dayton, Ky. circa late 80's" WE support this extraordinarily BRAVE young man....

·        GetOneFree.com, Bob & Donna Berendsen – Childhood friends who always made me comfortable and took away the strangeness I often felt at being me…

·        The No. Ky Health Dept. HIV/AIDS Care Coordinator Department –Simply because I love y’all and I couldn’t have made it this far without your arms to fall safely back on…

·        The Girls @ “Patty’s Blankets”/My Mom…

I had this idea for a Passive FUNdRaising Campaign that would employ this theme and perhaps, offer a unified theme for other HIVe's...

The concept involves strategically placing Buck-et$ and accompanying appropriate literature at participating establishments.  The theme from our most recent HIV/AIDS conference ties itself to many possibilities, especially among the young (at heart).   Every bartender in every bar on The South Bank could sign up for one and designate the program to feature. There could be one at every possible location from Jillian's to Newport on The Levee

Because of the link between HIV/AIDS and Homelessness, Tony suggested the Welcome House.  We wanted to focus on other local Social Service agencies that may have an outreach to the HIV Community...  After discussion about who, what, where, when, etc., it was decided that the passive strategy was something we would consider next year.

I would like to propose, However, that we speak to the larger Community and look to the needs of other families who have often forgotten family members.  I'd like to see FUNds raised to distribute food and supplies for those forgotten constant companions and loving friends.  Our SoBank Pets Are Wonderful Support!!  The old, the disabled, the infected, the affected, the family who goes to the local food pantry or picks up commodities...

Unfortunately, there's an election we have to survive which significantly cuts into what may be possible here this year.  Although it will go into next year's advance planning packet, I wanted to share it in the event someone else may be able to use it this year.
